Network Etiquette = NetiquetteThe decline of common courtesy is often shrugged off as the inevitable path of Internet communication; however, I propose that we stop this
poisonous Internet snark in its tracks by thinking logically about the situation and realizing this aberrant way of talking to one another is UNACCEPTABLE (culturally or socially).
This is not a club for whiners and we do not support sugar-coating; we simply abide by common sense when considering communication between one another. Simply put, we support constructive criticism.
The nature of Internet language often devolves to impersonal and rude exchanges, due in part to the "removed" nature of online communication. You are not face-to-face. The screen separates you from other users. Too often, people bear their computer screens like shields, dropping bombs in the form of flames and not having to own up to the consequences that face-to-face communication demands.
I too have done this - belittled another to flaunt my superiority. Did it make me feel all-powerful? No. rather, I felt a bit stupid by the time the miniature war was over. User versus user, one seeking to one-up the other and parade his or her victory around a forum. What does that accomplish? Nothing. Except tearing down a would-be artistic talent. Internet snark is nothing to be proud of, and it's never too late to change your ways.
The mask of indifference and invincibility has to go:
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR INTERNET.
